Wandering around in Cape Town
There might be living millions of people in Cape Town, it does’t feel like that at all when you walk around the city. No skyline of high buildings as you see in other large cities, but often small colonial houses with fences in front. That creates a high ‘wandering level’ in Cape Town. Go shopping in the 'City Bowl', where Kloof Street crosses Long Street. At some stores, you still have to ring the doorbell first.
Eating everywhere
De foodlovers will love Cape Town, being a South African city on the coast. Really everywhere you look in Cape Town, there is a terrace or restaurant nearby. From a simple bite up to haute cuisine, Cape Town has it all. And also the coffeelovers will find themselves in heaven, the espressos and cappuccinos are prepared like it was a piece of art.
Where the wine comes from
While the wines from ‘new countries’ are coming up, it is really quite nice to go and see where exactly the Stellenbosch wines come from. That is quite easy, it is only a one-houre drive from Cape Town, and if you would take the ‘wineroute’ to Franschhoek, you might forget for a moment that you are in Africa. Imagine the romantic coloured houses, a landscape like the Provence and restaurants with french names. The impressive country houses on the way are worth a stop. Stopping for a picnic or a lunch on on of the many wineyards as well.
Nelson Mandela
Take a moment to remember an important part of the history of South Africa; see the place where Nelson Mandela has passed most part of his lifelong (finally more than 27 years) imprisonment. Ex-prisoners give guided tours in the prison and tell over their life in captivity. In the cell of Nelson, you might realize how difficult it was, the fight he fought against the apartheid.
Not to miss in Cape Town!
Of course you may not miss the Tafelberg. Its presence over Cape Town is so clear, that it is difficult to miss it. If you want to visit it, do yourself a big favor and go really early, instead of waiting for hours for the cable car.. Leaving the city for a few days is part of most Cape Town visitors’ plans. For example, for seeing pinguïns in Simons Town, whales in Houtbay or the most beautiful sunset experience on the beach of Campsbay.
