ABOUT BARCELONA -Barceloneta

Barceloneta was in 1992 created for the Olympic Games in Barcelona. The man-made beach breathed new life into the area Barceloneta. The beach is at this moment obviously the main attraction of Barceloneta.
Besides the great beach there are in the district of Barceloneta a lot of excellent (fish) restaurants, bars and modern glass skyscrapers such as the twin-towers of Barcelona (among which hotel Arts).

Barceloneta is very popular under tourists and families in the summer and in the winter because of the popular beach itself but also because of the famous Ramblas, the old port, the Gothic District and the area of Born (el Borne) are at walking distance. Barceloneta is a friendly district where the laundry hangs always outside and with many bakers, hypermarkets and other small stores around every corner.

Museu Maritime – Barceloneta
In the middle of the enormous yard of the royal war fleet from the 14e centuries - the largest still existing medieval yard in the world – is the interesting and child friendly maritime museum. Under the Gothic arcs you find the model of the a ship which took part in the sea hecatomb of Lepanto of 1571, in original size.

The beach of Barceloneta
The beach of Barceloneta is the closest beach nearby the centre. From the Gothic District and the Born area the beach of Barceloneta is only on 10 minutes walking distance. In the small beach bars (chirinquitos) there is always coffee and a croissant whereas the restaurants at the beach offer good quality food. Beside the beach there is a splendid boulevard for nice strolling around.
