About the city Barcelona

ABOUT BARCELONA
- Ramblas

The ‘Rambla’ or ‘Las Ramblas’ is the most famous and touristic street in the city of Barcelona. The wide boulevard connects the Placa de Catalunya, a busy square in the centre of Barcelona, to the Columbus Monument. The Ramblas of Barcelona is packed with kiosks, flower stalls, animal stalls and street artists.

The often crowded street is popular with tourists and locals alike. The middle part of the Rambla is pedestrianized and bordered by trees. Kiosks, flower stalls, animal stalls and street artists are in abundance here. Traffic passes on either side of the pedestrian area. The Ramblas of Barcelona was originally a small stream flowing just outside the city walls. In the 16th century convents and a university were built along the river Las Ramblas. In the 19th century the city wall of old Barcelona was torn down and buildings were erected along the now dried up river.

Nowadays the Ramblas is the most busiest street in Barcelona.
