It is hard to choose which attractions are essential when you visit the everlasting city of Rome. Rome is too beautiful and has too many monuments.. and also many districts. Here we will give you some information about the most important districts.

Rome - Ancient Rome
In the old Rome district the majestic Coliseum is situated. The construction of the Coliseum is started by Vespasian and was after his dead finished by his son Titus in the year 1979. More than 50.000 spectators could watch fights between gladiators and wild animals. The Forum Romanum was the heart of the political, commercial and juridical life in old Rome and is now a great interesting mix of various buildings from various eras from the roman history.
Rome - Aventine
The district Aventine is a quiet and green neighborhood of the centre in Rome. From the top of this district you have a great view over the Tiber and on Trastevere and the Saint Pieter. In the district itself there are various interesting churches to find.
Rome – Historic centre
In the heart of Rome is one of the most famous buildings in the world situated: The Pantheon. This ancient, prominent temple is almost 2000 years old and remarkable because the diameter of the dome (43,3 meter) is equal to the height. The temple is in 27 before Christ build by Agrippa and points to the south. By a fire in the year 1980 it was needed to rebuild the Pantheon. After the rebuilding the Pantheon pointed to the north. Nowadays it is still a riddle how the oldest temple of the world is reconstructed.
Around the Pantheon are nowadays many offices and banks to find. Nevertheless it is a nice neighborhood where you can go out at night.
At the open-air market Campo de ‘Fiori’ it is nice to shop and go out thanks to the many market stalls, nice shops in the Via dei Giubbonari and trendy, traditional restaurants which are open till late, like L’Angolo Divino and Aqua.
Rome - Monti & Esquilino
Esquilino is the biggest and highest of the seven hills of Rome and isn’t one of the most popular tourist districts. There is much traffic and there are many buildings. Especially around the station Termini it is very crowded.
The location makes Esquilino perfect for tourists and business travelers.
In this district are various curiosities , including a few interesting churches as the Santa Prassede and the San Pietro but the most beautiful church of Esquilino is the Santa Maria Maggiore.
Rome - Trastevere
Trastevere means ‘over the Tiber’ and looks more like a separate small village. This picturesque, old artists district lays on the Westside of the river Tiber and is on walking distance of the centre. By day it is quite peaceful but at night is Trastevere one of the most dynamic districts of Rome, thanks to the picturesque squares, bendy allies, restaurants, cafes, cinemas and trendy clubs.
The most famous church of Trastevere is Santa Maria. Around the Piazza di Santa Maria is it crowded with cafés and terraces.
Every Sunday night is held the biggest flea market of Italy in this Jewish working-class quarter . On the flea market Porta Portese they sell almost everything.
Rome - Tridente
In Tridente, the most northly situated part of the centre in Rome, lays the famous square Piazza di Spagna which attracts many pilgrims, artists, writers and frivolous English aristocrats. In the chaos of small allies it is always crowded because of the many cafes and restaurants. The Via del Corso, between Piazza Venezia and Piazza del Popolo is the most important shopping street of Rome.
You will find here also the famous Spanish Stairs. These 137 stairs were build to connect the in the 18th century builded French Church Trinità dei Monti with the rest of the city. In the spring they are flourished with beautiful azalea’s.
Rome- Vatican city & Prati
Vatican city (Citta del Vaticano or Santa Sede) lays as a separate, unique small country in the centre of Rome en is under authority of the pope. This stronghold for Catholics, is since 1929 a sovereign state where more or less 1000 people work or live. This mini state is the smallest country in the world and his a surface of 44 hectare.
The Saint Pieter, which is 136 meter high, is the most famous building of the Vatican. Many renowned Roman architects were involved within this concept.
In the Vatican museum you will find one of the world’s best and most important art galleries with as highlight the Sistine Chapel with paintings of the best artists from the 15th and 16th century.
Rome - Via Veneto
The district Via Veneto is situated in the most northly part of the Rome centre. Here you will find exclusive hotels, expensive houses and elegant terraces. The Via Veneto was the décor of the famous film Fellini ‘La dolce vita’ (1960) about the decadent life of movie stars and other rich people. The chance of meeting a movie star still exists here.
Highlight in Via Veneto is the famous Trevifountain. In the Roman times soldiers thought that when they drunk out this fountain they would come home safely. Now the legend is, when you throw a coin in it, you will finally return to Rome.
